MEMORIAL LATCHKEY
British duo Memorial have returned with just their third single, and it’s a great one. ‘Latchkey’ is taken straight out of their upcoming debut album and merges a variety of influences into a modern take on folk music. This track is laid-back and honest, leaving their voices and acoustic guitars to do most of the seemingly tight-knit work, despite most of their process happening via voice notes sent between Brighton and Manchester. On the Wes Anderson-esque video, they explain the influence of the head of their label, Lucy Rose: “We got a very random call from Lucy saying she’s had an idea for latchkey: “bear with me, I’m seeing you as gardeners, but really terrible gardeners.” We’d, almost serendipitously, been watching a lot of Mighty Boosh and Wes Anderson films so this idea oddly made so much sense to us.” Be on the lookout for their upcoming full-length. -Dan Peeke
